Applications are invited from interested candidates for Advanced Certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation offered by the Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medical Science at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in collobaration with Center for Evaluation. The aim of this cours is to create a career path with professional qualifications in the fields of Monitoring and Evaluation.
The course caters for individuals qualified in various study disciplines with diverse professional backgrounds.

1st Webinar
The first webinar on “History and evolution of monitoring and evaluation in development discourse with introduction to project cycle” was held on Monday, 18th March 2024 at 07.00 pm IST. The speakers for this webinar was Dr. Rajib Nandi, Vice President, Sambodhi Research and Communications, India. This webinar was moderated by Mr. Amil Epa, Board Member, Asia Pacific Evaluation Association. The closing remarks for this webinar was given by Prof. Maheeka Seneviwickrama.

The 2nd webinar on “Sustainable Development Goals and evaluation” was held on Monday, 08 April 2024 at 07.00 pm IST. The opening remarks for this webinar was given by Dr. Mallika Samaranayake, Chairperson at Institute for Participatory Interaction in Development (IPID). The 5th webinar on “Opportunities for emerging monitoring and evaluation professionals” was held on Monday, 10 June 2024 at 07.00 pm IST. The speakers for this webinar were Ms. Ana Erika Lareza, Co-founder of EvalYouth Asia and Ms. Sawsan Al Zatari, Former Cochair of EvalYouth MENA. Preparation workshop with lecturers for M&E certificate course (1st intake)
The Advanced Certificate in M&E was initiated by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in March 2024 being the first university offered the course. In preparation for the course, a workshop was held on Wednesday, 14th February 2024 for resource persons of the course, organized by Department Community Medicine and the Center for Evaluation. The purpose of the workshop was to plan and prepare the course schedule of the Advanced Certificate in M&E.
Around 30 resource persons participated in the workshop. The workshop started with the welcome address by Dr. Asela Kalugampitiya, Director, Center for Evaluation. Introduction to Advanced Certificate in M&E was presented by Prof. Maheeka Seneviwickrama, Course Coordinator/ Head, Department of Community Medicine. Dr. Soma De Silva, Former M&E Advisor, UNICEF South Asia presented the course schedule and explained how to prepare session plans. Finalization of course schedule was facilitated by module leads, Mr. Janaranga Dewasurendra, Mr. Dulmina Chamathkara, Dr. Soma De Silva and Mr. Suchira Suranga.
Inauguration of the first intak
The first intake of the course was held on Saturday, 09th March 2024 at 09.00 am at the Faculty of Medical Sciences. Twenty-three students enrolled for the course. Dr. Asela Kalugampitiya, Dr. Soma De Silva, Prof. Maheeka Seneviwickrama spoke at the inauguration.
The inauguration was followed by a panel discussion with young M&E professionals who are exemplary examples for peers. The panel was moderated by Dr. Asela Kalugampitiya and the panelists were Ms. Bhagya Karawita, Mr. Janaranga Dewasurendra, Mr. Kasun Rananjya.
